At the PlayStation Showcase 2021, Sony announced that a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in development. This is news that has excited a lot of players, but it was close to being something different and much less exciting.
The thing is, Trent Oster, co-founder of BioWare and CEO of Beamdog, announced that his new studio was very close to working on the return of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Unlike the Aspyr project, his proposal was not a remake of the first installment of Knights of the Old Republic; instead they wanted to make a remastered collection called Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Reforged Collection.

That Beamdog, a studio made up of many former BioWare creatives, proposed such a project is not surprising. After all, they’ve worked on remasters of classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2 and Planetscape: Torment. Taking this into consideration, we can see that it is a studio with experience in bringing back RPGs that they fell in love with years ago, so we would not have been surprised if Lucasfilm Games gave the green light to the project.

It seems that Aspyr first had the idea of the return of DIRTY
But if Beamdog is so experienced, why Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Reforged Collection did not come true? It appears that Lucasfilm declined to explain the reasons to the studio. That said, Oster has a suspicion that the Aspyr project came to them first and seemed more attractive to them.
“Huge congratulations to our friends at Aspyr Media for announcing the remake of DIRTY. Now we know who won it, “said Oster on the social network.
Along with his congratulatory tweet, Oster posted an image showing us the presentation with which Lucasfilm Games was invited to greenlight a remastered collection of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Thus, although the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic it will come true, maybe there will be an alternate reality where it will not exist and instead we will have the remastered collection run by Beamdog. While there is no doubt that having the 2 installments on modern platforms would have been great, we cannot deny that we are happy that we will be able to see Darth Revan in a full remake.
