Ambassador of Cuba in Panama advocated for regional integration

In statements to the press during a visit to the National Assembly, he expressed that the island advocates friendship, understanding and union between peoples within diversity and, therefore, among its purposes and functions here is to promote the close exchange of people to village.

In this regard, the diplomat highlighted the meetings held yesterday by a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) of Cuba, which concluded its stay in the country on Wednesday.

“We always venture into the different spheres of Panamanian society, including Parliament, with the aim of opening opportunities for our peoples, as well as doors and borders that promote better knowledge,” he said.

On this occasion, the academic delegation, led by the vice minister of the MES Miriam Alpízar, and the rector of the University of Havana, Miriam Nicado, held meetings with Panamanian universities and foundations to expand the educational exchange that characterizes these two countries so close , he specified.

“For us it is a pleasure every time we arrive at the National Assembly, at the house of the Panamanian people. Here we have very beautiful stories such as the tenth that celebrates the Day of Cuban Culture, which was made from this venue by Luis “Cholo” Bernal, a Panamanian poet who works here, ”stated González.

And he stressed: “They are small memories that one keeps as a result of these systematic meetings,” while he recalled that the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba was created in 2019, as there are others, in which representatives of various political parties gather. .

Among the activities carried out the day before by the MES delegation in the unicameral legislative body, the meeting with the president of the Foreign Relations Commission, Mariano López, reiterated the need to strengthen academic ties with the island.

They also spoke with members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, including its president, Juan Esquivel, who recognized his comprehensive training as a “humanist” doctor in the Antillean nation.

For their part, deputies Miguel Fanovich and Fernando Arce thanked Cuba for humanitarian and solidarity aid through the medical brigades that offered their services this year during the most difficult stage of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Isthmus.

The broad agenda of the academics also included a working meeting with the rector of the University of Panama, Eduardo Flores, who thanked the invitation to the University 2022 meeting, the highest level academic meeting in the region.
