The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Rolando Castro, once again attacked the United States Chargé d’Affaires, Jean Manes, whom he accused of “leading” the opposition parties in El Salvador, and carrying out his post as a “political activist.”
Castro’s reaction comes after Manes, who serves as interim ambassador, defended the decision of the United States Department of State to include Castro on the list of corrupt and undemocratic actors in El Salvador, known as the Engel list. The statements were made during the Dialogue 21 interview.
This week, the Minister of Labor reported that he is preparing a lawsuit against the State Department “and its sources” for having included it in the list. Manes stated in statements to the media that “if a name is on the list, it is because it deserves to be there. “
Diplomacy has its rules, but we have seen the woman in particular directing the political opposition in this country, she has played an eminently political role. ” Rolando Castro, Minister of Labor.
Last Tuesday, Castro also claimed the US diplomat for “intervene” in Salvadoran institutions, and demanded that he present evidence incriminating him in acts of corruption.

And is that According to the Salvadoran official, representatives of the embassy confirmed that he was not sanctioned for corruption; if not for “some damage to political opponents”, specifically for his complaints against the former mayor of San Salvador, Ernesto Muyshondt.I believe that everyone in a democratic society and the rule of law has clear rules, and diplomacy has clear rules here and anywhere in the world. And I do believe and I have said it, that lately Mrs. Manes has been more dedicated to doing political activism than doing her eminently diplomatic work. ” Rolando Castro, Minister of Labor.
In addition, Castro accused the interim ambassador of “political activism” in favor of opposition parties., and to “do nothing” about corruption in previous governments.
She came as an ambassador in 2016, she was here for many years and in that time there were corrupt governments, today it is becoming evident how the people of Arena, of the FMLN, looted the country. There are cases that have been prosecuted, and Mrs. Manes never did anything at all, on the contrary, she became friends with many of them. ” Rolando Castro, Minister of Labor.
