Exalta Díaz-Canel history of the Ministry of Armed Forces in Cuba

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today recognized the historical trajectory of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar), on the 62nd anniversary of its foundation, celebrated this October 16.

“My congratulations and recognition of the revolutionary history of that efficient and firm ministry,” the president wrote on his Twitter social network account, about the work of the institution in charge of ensuring the preparation of the country and the population for defense.

The approval of Law 600 in October 1959, just months after the triumph of the Revolution, dissolved the former Ministry of National Defense and created MINFAR in the Caribbean nation.

Since its foundation, Army General Raúl Castro was appointed minister, a position he held until 2008, when he became president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba (2008-2018).

In material of historical remembrance published the day before by the Granma newspaper, the official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba pointed out that with the creation of the Minfar, Cuba institutionalized its right to defend itself.
