He is immersed in an extradition process to the United States for alleged drug and arms trafficking
MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The former head of Intelligence of the Venezuelan Government Hugo ‘El Pollo’ Carvajal, pending to be extradited to the United States for alleged crimes of drug and arms trafficking, will testify this Monday before the judge of the National Court, Manuel García-Castellón, for some preliminary proceedings that are open for international terrorism.
According to legal sources consulted by Europa Press, ‘El Pollo’ offered on Thursday to appear before the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 6 for these preliminary proceedings and García-Castellón agreed to listen to him summoning him for 10.00 hours this Monday.
‘El Pollo’ Carvajal is immersed in an extradition process that continues halfway through the National Court (AN) and the Supreme Court and that is pending the resolution of different appeals.
Last year, both the National Court and the Government gave the green light to his surrender to the US authorities, but the extradition has been halted in recent days because the asylum he requested in 2019 was believed to be unanswered.
The Interior Ministry has informed the AN and Carvajal’s defense that it already answered the asylum request in September 2019 to deny it. Now, Carvajal has appealed this ‘no’ to the portfolio led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
THE POSTER OF THE SUNS
The extradition process was reactivated after last Thursday night it was by Group II of Fugitives of UDYCO Central, in a joint operation with the DEA, in an apartment located on Torrelaguna street in Madrid, after spending almost two fugitive years.
As reported by the National Police, he lived “totally cloistered, without going outside or looking out the window, and always protected by trusted people.” He changed hiding every three months and resorted to cosmetic surgery and disguise elements to try to hide.
The former head of Military Counterintelligence with the Chávez and Maduro governments is persecuted for events that occurred between 1999 and 2019, when he would have belonged to the so-called ‘Cartel of the Suns’, a criminal organization supposedly run by ‘Chavista’ charges that, with the alleged collaboration of the FARC and other armed groups would have introduced large quantities of drugs into the United States.
